Good Quality Patio Furniture At Low Prices

January 30th, 2010

You can save a lot of money when buying your patio furniture without sacrificing style or quality! All you need is to know where to look: good quality, substantial pieces of outdoor furniture need not burn a hole in your pocket. There are good deals to be had and you can achieve the look and feel of your dreams even on a modest budget.

A low price needn’t automatically translate into low quality. Think boho chic, for instance, as in this style of design there is most definitely no giving up on quality and style – yet it can be achieved on the smallest of bank balances. The thing to look for in a patio set is whether it works with the rest of your scheme and is reasonably easy to maintain year round: a heftier price tag is no guarantee that this will be the case. You can create a fantastic outdoors entertaining area where you can enjoy the summer in style with your friends and family without having to take a second mortgage or work longer hours.

The first place to start looking is the internet. There are plenty of online suppliers out there and you are bound to find a good deal if you shop around. There are many materials available and from teak to aluminum you can save a bundle by buying your set online. Look out for wholesale vendors that offer trade prices to the public for the best deals.

The second way to score a really good deal is to put on your best poker face and head down to your local furniture dealer. Remember that the sales people there to help you really want to earn a commission so you can use this to your advantage. Find the set you like, spot a small defect and start negotiating the price down! Sometimes you can get between twenty and fifty percent off, which is well worth brushing up on those negotiation skills for.

Hard negotiation is not for everyone though, so you may want to play a little waiting game instead. By holding off buying your patio furniture until the middle of the summer you should be able to pick up a very good deal from your local store. Most retailers will want to sell through whatever summer stock they have left before the weather starts to turn, and in order to do so quickly start slashing the prices down as the end of the good season draws near.

With a bit of shopping around you can find a set of patio furniture that is both stylish and of good quality without having to over extend your finances.

How to Pick Quality Oak Furniture

December 18th, 2009

Deciding to buy oak furniture online is however be a major decision, and there are several things to bear in mind. A dining table may be one such consideration, and buying one of true quality will mean purchasing in 100% hardwood, not veneer, chipboard or MDF. When buying a modern dining table (as with any furniture online), remember the timber should be kiln dried and the table handmade.

A quality piece of oak furniture will be heavy, sturdy and have complete stability in any legs. A well-made dining table for instance will usually require some effort to lift. If you look at antique furniture you will see the quality of finish from the craftsmen of bygone days. Compare this to today’s well-constructed furniture and you should see similarities. Antique furniture oozes quality and today’s furniture should do the same.

When scrutinising oak furniture you need to look for good joints and a good finish. If the piece is made of multi pieces of timber, make sure that you cannot see the joins. If it is a pullout table where there is a foldaway leaf in the middle, look at how the mechanism slides out and how easily it slides back into place. Make sure that any legs are strong enough to hold the weight of the table top, as well as what the table top will hold.

If a piece has drawers, you need to look at how they are constructed. Are they of the same wood as the table? They should be. Are the joints tight? Make sure the bottom of the drawer is sturdy and correctly joined, and not just glued on. Badly-constructed drawers can mean that the bottom can easily become loose, particularly if you put something fairly heavy inside, cutlery being just one example. Additionally there should be no rough edges, no fading of timber and nothing loose.

Remember that you are buying an item that you will still be using many, many years from now. Solid hardwood furniture is not a purchase to be taken lightly. Indeed, oak furniture should be looked upon as a lifetime investment.

If you are looking to follow the growing trend and purchase your furniture online, look at various websites and be sure to compare them. Do an Internet Search for ‘Oak Furniture’ to see the top sites.

You can be fairly confident that a quality retailer with a good website will be selling good quality items. A good website will give you a telephone number as well as an email address. There will usually be a Frequently Asked Questions section where you should find the answers you seek.

A good on line retailer has nothing to hide and will be happy to speak to you and answer any questions you may have. Look also for clear and close-up photographs. If making a purchase from the internet, you need to be confident that you can clearly see what you are buying as you would if you visited a shop. A good retailer will use an expert photographer and their website will look professional.

Quality Teak Patio Furniture – Should You Buy It?

December 1st, 2009

Much has been said about quality teak patio furniture in the last couple of years and there is little doubt that teak is the ultimate material for outdoor furniture, but is it for you?

What makes teak wood one of the best types of material for patio furniture is it’s high natural oil content . The wood is resistant to rot and has very little shrinkage. And it has an extremely dense grain so that swelling and warping are rare. This means that you can leave your teak furnishings outdoors for years and with minimal care, it will not deteriorate.

There are many brands and quality from inexpensive to quite pricey. You will definitely invest more to get the high end quality so if that is what you want make sure you know how to identify that quality. Then it will last for years to come.

Teak may be in its natural state, or it may be sealed with a light coat of teak oil. Without the seal it will age naturally giving the wood a silver-gray finish. Applying a teak sealer once or twice a year after cleaning will keep it looking new.

Now here is the BIG question.

Is quality teak furniture for you? Will you still be enjoying your furniture in 15 years or will you be so tired of it that you will want something else? If you buy the high end furniture it should still be in good shape in 15 years. But do you still like it? If you have cushions do they still fit your decor? Of course you can always change the cushions for a different look but can you justify buying new furniture when what you have is still good?

Your tastes may have changed in those 15 years or maybe you are living in a different home or climate. If you had bought a set of patio furniture that was less expensive, you probably would not mind replacing it because it will be showing its age.

So the answer to the BIG question is that the high end quality may not be the best choice. Only you can decide. Will what you buy today be what you will still want 15 years from now?
